Change deck without changing the CD changer in the trunk?

Is it possible to replace the deck without having to replace the changer? I have a 1994 Jetta and the CD deck is getting old and the ons are worn out but I have no problem with the 10 disk changer in the trunk. Can I just swap the deck for a newer one?
